Amelia Briggs is an artist working with fiber, painting, and installation to illustrate the complexities of our interior landscape. She translates feeling into sinuous, gestural forms that relate to our bodies and the natural world. These forms appear to embrace, elevate, caress, and reinforce, and their subtle color changes indicate a process of growth within a firm boundary.

This oil and Flashe painting is part of an ongoing series the artist began last August. After experiencing emotional trauma and moving to New York City, Briggs began to translate her emotions into abstracted shapes. Influenced by the psychology of body language and the study of natural systems, Briggs’ artwork reflects our shared human nature and the unknowable complexity inside each of us.
