MOPPET

Elephant Gallery, Nashville, TN March 2019

Comprising a large-scale installation complete with giant “inflatables”, a fake fur rug, and a puffy table, Amelia Briggs transforms Elephant Gallery into her version of a childhood playroom.

A recreation of her youth as a means of self-discovery. The colors, shapes, and lines of her memories are broken down and pieced together into bloated, inflated objects. Each is personal and universal, suggestive of history and a search for identity. Rather than spell out a narrative, Briggs’ work reimagines a shared language — offering a springboard of recognition and possibility.
